A Place To Call Home
Feathered Friends Forever Mission Statement:
To rescue abused or unwanted parrots from both retail and private situations. For example, birds
that have been given from owner to owner because of behavioral problems.
To act as a placement service for friendly or tame birds whose owners have had to give up their
bird's for any reason.
To serve as an educational resource on the care and responsibilities of owning tropical parrots as
pets and advice service for: Prospective and current bird owners, via email, schools, and retail pet
stores.
To serve as a permanent sanctuary for birds not suitable for adoption.
Our long-term goals include building full flight areas for our birds.

We provide placement for unwanted psittacines. We rescue,
rehabilitate and adopt out relinquished parrots. In extreme cases we
offer a permanent home. PEAR TREE offers parrot owners education
and assistance basic bird care, nutrition and behavior issues.
Each surrendered parrot undergoes careful evaluation to determine
proper future placement. After arrival, many displaced parrots need
rehabilitation for a variety of behavioral problems. The majority;
however, require radical changes to their diet.

Sandi Madsen, the owner of Ollie's Parrot's Perch, has been a
resident of Dekalb, Illinois for more than 10 years. The family
moved to Dekalb for its quiet, country atmosphere.
An avid animal lover, Sandi decided to make a career change and
worked at the Genoa Animal Hospital for a year, while taking
classes at Kishwaukee College to prepare for a career in
veterinary technology.
After acquiring an amazon parrot named Ollie who had behavior
"issues," however, she became interested in avian behavior and
decided to go in that direction. Along with boarding and grooming
birds and educational outreach, Sandi also runs a foster care
facility for rescued parrots. A Place to Call Home is an Illinois
licensed, not for profit organization that takes in unwanted pet
parrots and finds loving homes for them. She is a member of the
Northern Illinois Parrot Society, the West Suburban Caged Bird
Club, The Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council and PEAC.
